The storyline

I really love the storyline of Prophecies and Eye of the North. Factions is good as well, but I feel that Nightfall was a bit of a step backwards in the story.

Also, I like the tactic skills needed to play, compared to other MMO's I've tried out. can't complain about the Graphics either, really...

Unique Mechanics

No Fed-ex quests. Unique and well excecuted mechanics. Forgiving character progression. BALANCED! (for the most part.) Simply put, It's not WoW and doesnt try to be.

Map Communication

Sometimes chat and even voice takes too long when you can simply draw on the map for all to see. Guildwars' map communication is an ingenious way to keep team members together.

Reliability

Guild Wars is one game I can count on to work well, and I can't think of a single glitch or bug that has disrupted game play regularly. I also love the fact that it's a few years old., since the game engine runs on a small footprint with a high framerate. If Guild Wars 2 is engineered as well as GW1, I'll be a fan for years to come!

Group-Based PvE Combat

One of the things I hated most about other MMO RPGs, was that most of the play time was spent repeating the same actions over and over trying to fight one monster at a time, and praying you didn't aggro more. In GW, henchies and heroes made it possible to always have a group with you. This made battle more varied, complex, and far more entertaining. Not only that, but professions were designed to work well in teams, so you were able to get used to your role in battle and learn to specialize in it. This created the strategic art of team structuring, adding a new element t the combat system that all players could learn to use regardless of their level. It just always felt like there was just more going on in GW than in other MMOs, and I hope they keep that quality in GW2.

I have to admit that my primary drive throughout Guild Wars has been rooted in pimping out my characters' clothing.

Some of the items and quests have great names. I love game that don't take themselves too seriously. Ex:"Worthy Deeds - Done Dirt Cheap" (ACDC) and "Grabthar's Hammer", a reference to one of my favorite movies, Galaxy Quest.

Soloability

You can get pretty much anywhere in the game by yourself (with h/h). No high-end guild or other player(s) needed. No de facto need to get armor/weapons that you'd almost never be able to get on your own in order to remain competitive

Ethnic Diversity

Not all of the good guys in this game are some form of northern European Caucasian. The full spectrum from palest pink to darkest brown is represented. Granted, brown skin in Prophecies and Factions is more of an afterthought than a feature. I always appreciate the effort.

A fully diverse proactive and reactive monk.

I have yet to see an MMO utilize the capabilities of monking as good an Guild Wars. Not only do you have to understand healing but you also need to understand protection which is the negation of damage based on certain conditions, making them more proactive than reactive. The ability to understand these parameters can strike the distance between an exceptionally diverse monk and a monk who never looks outside the box.

Competing games have failed to execute this character class with the precision and effectiveness as Guild Wars has done 4 years in a row......making a master of this class an ally worth its weight and gold.

The Music

The soundtrack by Jeremy Soule is atmospheric and often superb. There is nothing grating and no horrible tunes that revolve round and round in one's head: "A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat" (don't ask).

PvP

The PvP in Guild Wars is the best RPG-type PvP on the market today. The GvG format is particularly interesting due to its depth, but really it's all pretty awesome.

Weaknesses:

* Support for drop-in PvP could be better. Random Arenas is frustrating due to the stick-with-the-winning-team format: it means that players playing a single game are likely to get a bad team. HvH doesn't really feel like GW, since managing the heroes is more important than actually managing your character.

* It's rough to get 8 players for a team to show up at the same time. More support for formats with smaller team sizes would be good.

Running

I have to say, I love being able to solo Shiro or the Great Destroyer or being able to take down Varesh with a four-man team. It bankrolls by prestige armors and makes it a hell of a lot easier for me to advance my characters through the campaigns. Land runs are also ridiculously fun. After spending so much time being slowed down and harried by all the enemies of the game, it feels good to be able to bypass them like the losers they are.

Now of course, there are people who think runs are bad... I don't care. I think some retard said we should have to work hard for stuff like droks armor or beating Varesh. Yes, we should have to work hard in a video game rather than getting smart. Wei wu wei.

Of course, I like doing runs better than I like paying for them. Go read Roq's article on AION vs GW2. In there I theorized that stealth and running tactics may be used to bypass enemy groups and make exploration more soloable without eliminating team combat. Personally, I don't care id commercial running is made impossible in GW2, but I still want to be able to run to explore or take down bosses. I'd hate if there was nothing like the 55 Monk or the running builds in GW2.
