Summoner

Leader! Most 1st Place Votes
A spell caster that specializes in creating animated minions to do his/her bidding, be they demons, golems, undead, etc...

An example would be the existing GW minion master. Though they specialize in creating undead minions, a blanket summoner profession would allow for more diversity in this area.

Chronomancer

Top Five Percent
There's no time like the present. Especially when a Chronomancer comes to town. But the fact is when is the present? With all this time bending I don't quite know whats going on.

The Chronomancer is a powerful mage who bends time to his or her will. Whether or not it be slowing down time speeding it up or even stopping it all together.

When both time and space no longer matter you will find your self asking "Whats going on?" So please, embrace the madness that is the Chronomancer.

Siege Master

I. THE SIEGE MASTER Background: The Siege Master is a necessity for armies hoping to attack a fortified position. Commanding mighty, massive beasts who carry their engines of war into battle, they break down enemy fortifications and soften up the enemy in preparation for sending in brawlers and shock troops. The Charr Iron Legion is especially keen on having the best Siege Masters to command and maintain their siege devourers and siege towers. Function: Overall the Siege Master plays a supporting roll in battle, tossing grenades and bombarding the enemy at a distance. A Siege Master's armor is not strong enough nor are his grenades damaging enough for him to participate directly in battle. His mobility while attacking is also extremely limited as he must stick close to his siege engine to heal and protect it against enemy... [show more]

The Shapeshifter

The Shapeshifters are a primal and feral profession. They can take the shape of any creature they behold and they can also change specific parts of themselves ( e.g change his hand into a solid block of stone to smash into his enemys face). Another skill of the shapeshifter is their ability to communicate with animals(e.g he could be stalking an undead nobleman and he passes a rabbit and it gives him information about when he passed and how many troops he had with him.)The majority of Shapeshifters are Norn as the already have a shapeshifting characteristic so it comes naturally to them but there are also many Shapeshifters from other races. Shapeshifters can only shift into the shapes of creatures the have touched which they keep a record of them all in their “Shapeshifters Shapes Diary” . A Shapeshifters primary weapon is their... Brawler

A powerful fighter who uses martial arts and a powerful stance to prepare for combat. Those who would stand in there way beware there defense shattering attacks and never let them get there hands on you or you will find your self on the ground. This fighter has a hand to hand capability unlike any thing the world has ever seen. Although the Brawler is a melee combat profession they have the lowest base armor rating among the melee professions. That is not to say they are made of glass oh no! There armor may match that of a magic profession at first but when they enter in a stance there armor becomes as powerful as a paragon's would be. In comparison to GW1's current Armor rating setup this is how it would look: Armor:60(+20 While in a Stance) +50Health That would be with out modifiers. The Idea behind the Brawler is based on a Mixed Martial... [show more]

Wraith

These neo-spiritual warriors of a past time have come back for another round. Although many RPG games assign these spirits to clearing dungeons of heroes. It is time to enjoy this great gaming irony of destroying evil with a wraith.

Attributes:

Swordsmanship: Increases attack with swords. Aids skills that cause conditions.
Spiritual Atunement: Increases chance of dodging physical damage. Aids spells that communicate to the spiritual world and call on spiritual aid.

Dark Arts: Adds dark damage to all attacks. Aids direct damage spells.
Intimidation: No inherent affect. Aids hexes and spells that debuff enemy attacks.

notes: Wraiths can enter a spirit form. While in spirit form, they do less damage but are impossible to hit and immune to conditions. However spirit forms are very weak to magic.

Nature Guardian

This profession would be a mage who has given up the powers of the elements and focused his magic on more plantlike things. He can renew dying plants or use them to wrap a foe up to the point of death, only if he needs to. He can also create angel like creatures with wings that also can mend and use nature to its offense or defense. This class would also use flight as a great part of its routine. Why this would be a great new profession? It would be a great twist on a elementalist/ritualist. And would be lots of fun to play with such creatures you can summon and things you can do with nature. It could also go with great pairs of armor like long robes with leaves or leaf designes on them. Think of it also as a Green Mage or Life Mage. Why am i suggesting this? Because when I play guild wars i crave a class that can use the power of nature and summon beautiful... [show more]

The Shrift

Background The Shrift is a priest that, like all other Guild Wars classes, is devoted to his god. However, the other professions' faith pales in comparison to his fervor. To commune with his deity, the Shrift explores his own mortality through suffering. He is covered in painful piercings which are constant reminders of his own corporeal flaws. The Shrift enters battle, redirecting opponents' damage towards himself. By basking in the agony, his faith is strengthened. All the while, he zealously preaches, forcing opponents to recognize their own humility. Function The Shrift acts as a true tank (unlike any class to date). He redirects damage towards himself, shielding his teammates from harm. This damage is converted into energy by his primary attribute. He then utilizes his expanded energy stores to neutralize enemies... [show more]

The Jarl would bassicaly be a small war band full of large damage causing mele/ranger units. To keep things fair the Jarl's party would not be able to include more than 1magic caster(elementalist, necromancer, ritualist) and 1 monk.

Wanderer

Dual-handed melee spear weilders, the wanderers load conditions on foes while taking less damage from the elements. These tribal fighters have the ability to lessen their aggro circle, set powerful traps for snare enemies, and use their tribal inner abilities to provide partywide condition control and exploit corpses for party boons. Attributes: Spearmanship: Increases spearweilding capability along with increasing spear attack damage and conditions applied by spear attacks Tracking: Increases the effectiveness of stances dealing with running or attack speed as well as being able to clarvoiantly track certain foes (this includes skills such as ones that could locate nearby bosses or give you a second quest arrow toward a foe you've met before.) A Nomad

The Game could use a Nomad, or travelling merchant. Although his attack skills would be minimal, his skills could include the following:

The ability to buy and sell things duing combat (thus solving inventory issues during farming).

The ability to find hidden treasures on maps

The ability to change his look to bypass aggros to unlock doors or gain access to areas for the group

The ability to remove death penalty for a charge

Of course he could still attack a little, but his support skills would make him very useful in the game.

I discussed this alot on the NikiWiki, and I really feel there shouldn't be more professions, just more depth in the existing ones. Pretty much any role you can come up with can fit into the existing professions, and less profession division allows for more customization and adaptation with each profession instead of trying to further seperate and validate dozens of minut differences.

Perhaps what's more interesting than what kind of new professions to consider would be what could be done with existing professions. Why make a summoner when you can adapt Ritualist, and why make a Samurai or Martial Artist when you can adapt Assassin.

I agree! I'd be happy to see different "flavors" of the existing archetypes. A little more variety in armor, body, and personalization would be great, but it would be neat to have, for example, a samurai version of the warrior, with or without actual skill-set differences.

The limitations of the skill bar make the game very conducive to expanding current professions without rehashing the same old stuff. Although it would be cool to see another profession in game, ultimately I agree that it would be spreading the content a little too thin. The goal should be to deepen the current classes. That way you could see new use come out of characters players have had for years.

Well, I'd like to share my old concepts, but if you've gone to NikiWiki and seen them, it is basically all one coherent intertwine concept which I don't really think is reasonable for GW2, they just arn't going to take it straight from me and make a game out of it no matter how good I make it.

Samurai may actually fit the Warrior motif a little better in reality, but I always pitched it as an Assassin role since Warrior has a variety of weapons, and because typical fan interest in Samurai involve speedy dashing and critical slashes that fit more into the Assassin identity. I really think Assassin should be overhauled to be a more universal Asian themed combatant.

If we gain new professions I think it should relate to a previous one. You know How there are different builds that make different names of what kind of profession one is. For example 'Necro Bomber' is one kind of necromancer build. I think a similar idea should be placed with these ideas.
