Guild Wars 2 Suggestions Add Answer

Welcome to the Guild Wars 2 suggestions pages. This is the place where you get to let ArenaNet know what you want to happen with their upcoming game. They might listen, they might not - but that's all part of the fun!

Limitless roaming

To be able to walk almost anywhere, up any cliff, through any forest, into any building would be a huge frustration-reducer and a nice change for loyal GW players.

In-game messaging system

Top Five Percent
Instead of having to wait until a friend comes online, you could send them a message which they can read in their own time. Maybe even a courier system so that people can trade more easily.

World-Changing Events

Top Five Percent
Maybe, every once in a while, especially preceding new expansions, there could be an event that actually changes the world itself. Let me give you an example before you say anything. Lets say, some time, long after the initial release of GW2, they announced an event which would allow all the players of the world to travel to a site outside Arah where they would be able to participate in a mission where they would attempt to take back Arah from the dragon that holds it (probably would involve more than one team of players at a time). We could call it "Remember the True Gods!". For about a month, people would be able to participate in this, and, after that month is over, players would be able to walk through the streets of Arah as a city reclaimed. Players might still be able to participate in the mission by visiting the old site outside of Arah... [show more]

Playable races: Tengu

Top Five Percent
Tengu already exist in Guild Wars lore as both the Angchu and Sensali tribes and this race continues to be a large fan favourite. It would be a shame to not include Tengu as a playable race in GW2.

Mounts as Companions

Top Five Percent
The premise of this idea is fairly simple: combine companions and mounts. Preposterous as it sounds at first, this actually solves several problems posed by incorporating companions and mounts separately. First, let us deal with a few of the problems caused by mounts. Number one is how to deal with the needs of several races, of different sizes and with different cultures who would all need mounts which suited them. Asura are easy, they could ride golems. Humans could ride anything. Sylvari might ride animated plant constructs, but it would be a pity if those couldn’t fight on their own. The Norn, however, are too big to ride just about anything I saw in the original GW games short of a hydra. Not to mention the fact that Norn will be capable of transformations in the next game and will either be forced to choose between using mounts... [show more]

Randomized enemy appearance

Top Five Percent
Instead of cloned enemies coming after you, what if each (or just a couple) were different in height/color/armor type? Even a few random changes to one or two enemies could add a bit more realism into the game and add a little variety when killing giant mobs.

Weapon sheaths

Top Five Percent
I haven't seen this yet so ill put it out there. Why have weapons disappear when we go into a city or outpost? Just have a back strap for staffs, hammers, sythes, spears, bows, and/or shields, a belt loop for axes, wands, and offhands, and a sheath for swords and daggers. Obiviously not all of these items would be on your character at the same time, but it would add variety in towns to see warriors walking around with shields on their backs, or an assasin with a pair of daggers at their belt.

Sailing and Naval Combat.

Top Five Percent
Battle can take place in many environments, and each can produce it's own experience if the environments are interactive enough and disticnt in challenge and situation. But few are as unique or interactive as a moving environment, instead of simply battling on the land, battles could take place on moving ships on the sea. With Guilds comes the opportunity to have guild owned ships instead of just Guild Halls, with this customizable and player controlled vessel, Guilds could explore the open seas, visit new locations for exploration and conquest, and most of all, engage in open combat on the sea, naturally brining together two mobile environments on a liquid plain. The ability to steer your ship, operate it's propultion and armament, attack ship to ship, or board eachothers ships and fight directly in normal combat fashion... [show more]

No profession limit for races

Top Five Percent
You should be able to combine all races with all primary professions, and you should have good reasons to do so. There should not be any race or class restrictions.

I loved being a Night Elf in the WoW trial, but I couldn't be that class that summons demons with that race (Warlock). I much preferred the "Pick any two professions" model of GW, especially with their money back guarantee (switch the secondary anytime). Each race should have incentives to combine with any professions. For example, the Norn shape-shifting should include animal forms useful to spell casters.

Spells need real effects not just redundant effects.

Top Five Percent
OK to put this simple; when my elementalist casts Armor of Earth why cant i see rocks on my characters in the shape of armor for the spells duration, or why not have Well of Blood actually raise a well from the ground full of bloss that moves to the injured ally character. It doesn't even have to be this complex I just got bored of the fact that half of the spells form magical floating green circles, half the attacks are different colored balls of light, and the rest of the effects didn't show up at all except for in the top left corner of my screen telling me they were there. I just like the idea of a more intense battle with some real effort put into the battle imagery. Even blood would have been nice now and then (not ridiculously graphic of course.)
Sorry for any spelling or grammar errors im tired.

I agree. However I'd like to be able to customize my characters a bit more, since I'm a character-creating junkie, so that would be my number one. :D

This List can potentially get out of hand... is it possble to merge several suggestions that relate to each other or are equally popular? Should it be kept to 30 suggestion and move excess into distinctive aspects of GW2? Example: Climb, Jump, Walk, and Swim are share the exact same issues and are seemingly in high demand -- expanded ways to travel (we all wanted to do these at least once in the game). While several others related to expanded character creation options or real-time grapical environmental affects.

As we get more and more suggestions, we can create more focused topics, such as "How should character creation be improved?" In fact, there's nothing stopping you from adding that now, so I'd say go for it :) http://guildwars.grupthink.com/ask/

As we get more contributions, it will probably become obvious which new topics should be created. This topic may eventually be obsoleted by the more focused topics, but for now it's a good indication of which ideas are in high demand.

We're taking an organic approach to growing the community so we don't break up the discussion into too many categories, too soon.

To be honest, I perfered the wiki format, I've already noticed the 60 second edit timer, which would make it very hard to continue a work in progress, and this isn't nearly as organized as the wiki was, with linked topic, branching variations and plenty of opportunity to make continous improvements.

This site feels like it is designed for finished ideas, and I don't know how that fits in with group thinking, it seems like the only benifit is a clean and professional looking backdrop. I'm still new to this, so maybe some of you could personally share some features available from this site.

I guess that's alright, the essetials are covered. But if you've seen some of my responses, you'd know that I can't proof-read my work within one minute.

Hehe true. Maybe it's as simple as increasing the time limit for edits? I know forums have some limitations like this but I forget what the conventional rules are.

Probably an hour, it does leave room for the comment to be changed by the time someone reads it, but than this site isn't high on traffic right now, so it is more likely that it woln't be seen until some point later in the day or the next day.

I think a link to Guild Wars Wikis "The Movement of the World"-page, the Guild Wars 2 FAQ-page and the Guild Wars 2 page should be linked in the topic, as well as a link to the topic with already confirmed features to avoid ideas that goes against the features already confirmed. It will probably pop up some of those in the future anyway, but it will hopefully keep the amount down as well as leading people to a place where they can read more about GW2.

I believe that keeping a low level cap and the standard 8 skill bar is very important.

If GW2 wants to competitively compete with WoW they have to create a unique game to attract the right audience.

Expanding the world map and a persistent world is very important for an RPG feeling.

GW1 felt like a one person game because I would just go through levels with a few friends much like Fable and other games alike.

I really enjoy reading and reviewing some of the thoughts/suggestions/ideas by everybody because it gives me a feeling like GW2 is so so close and I'm extremely excited to see how it is.

Just a small idea I have that I haven't seen mentioned...is maybe there could be a box in the general options that allows one to manipulate their IGN so that it indicates to other players that they are in a "roleplaying mode". Just a thought =)

I really think we should summarize all answers putting them in categories, separating what problem are the ideas trying to solve. There are many answers on ideas of how to solve the same issues.

so we would put all the answers for one issue on one answer, quick references of all the ideas for that issue and links to the original posts... then put links to the "Categories answers" on the Question text...

I mean, if ANet actually comes here to read some suggestions, they won't read them all and many of the answers that should really be read won't.

They would instead read something like:
"Guilds Improvements:
->answer #1 quick description and a link to original
->answer#2
->etc."

so if someone from ANet comes to this site, they will read the quick descriptions and only read the full idea and the comments on it from ideas they found interesting....

This should really be done! Else, what's the point of this site?!
